What is the standard 'H' test pattern for bobbin tension?
The 'H' test stitches a 1-inch satin column letter 'H'. When inspected on the back side of the fabric, the white bobbin thread should occupy the middle one-third of the column, flanked by top thread on both sides.
Can this test pattern be used on domestic embroidery machines?
Yes. Our test patterns are exported in all formats (Brother PES, Janome JEF, Tajima DST, Bernina EXP, Singer XXX) and scale to fit 4x4" domestic hoops up to large commercial frames.
How often should I run an embroidery test pattern?
We recommend running a test swatch whenever switching to a new fabric type, altering thread weight (e.g. 40wt to 60wt), replacing needle sizes, or when you notice thread loops or tension drift.
